Rail transport

2023 has been the year of greatest expansion of Alsa's railway activity, which began in 2017. This year, 265,000 kilometres have been travelled on the railway network and the incorporation of vehicles has continued, ensuring a fleet of 15 locomotives, capable of transporting the 43,000 passengers of 2023 and allowing sufficient means to address the transport of goods, both regular and on demand of its customers. As a fundamental pillar of this growth, numerous agents have been incorporated in the different areas of operation: rail transport, maintenance, training and especially in the area of logistics terminals, which carry out a total of 73,000 operations annually. All this thanks to the work of a total of almost 200 people in the Rail Directorate. The logistics terminals of Zaragoza-Plaza, Valencia Fuente de San Luis and its port network, Barcelona and its port network have been joined by activities in Sagunto, Madrid, Córdoba and León, meaning that 85% of freight trains handled in Spain pass through their hands at some stage of their journey. To achieve all this, the role of the Railway Training Centre with headquarters in Madrid and Zaragoza, where more than a hundred professionals have obtained their qualifications to work in the sector, is essential. The role of the Operations Management Centre (24 hours a day, 365 days a year) has been especially relevant, which has been expanded with new people and areas of activity to support not only the activities already mentioned, but also the areas of railway technical maintenance, both for trains and infrastructure, and their additional services, with Alsa railway agents being able to be found in practically all the territories of Spain.
